The truth is the light bulb, as a concept, had been around for many decades before Edison yet his genius was in perfecting the filament and turning the early parlour tricks into a product used by millions of users worldwide. 

Successful products are far more than just the idea, some nice design and functional engineering, Its about how all aspects of the design, user, technology and market all are seamlessly ‘joined up’ creating an experiential product experience, not just a nice object.
