Skypark receives £30k in funding from Cycling Scotland to create new Cycling Friendly Facilities
Skypark has announced an ambitious plan that will see it transform into one of the most cycle friendly business destinations in Scotland, as part of its focus on providing high quality health and wellbeing facilities to its tenants.
Under the plan, Skypark has secured funding of £30k from Cycling Scotland, for a brand new state of the art cycling facility to benefit all tenants. The new facility will have space for 250 new bike racks, toilets, showers and a changing area with a dedicated cycle repair space.
Skypark’s Strategic Lettings Advisor, Angela Higgins of Resonance Capital said: “Our long term investment ambition at Skypark is to fully embrace sustainability and to improve health and wellbeing for all. We are pleased to announce that we have secured £30k in funding from Cycling Scotland, and we are working hard to become a Cycling Friendly Employer.”
Kath Brough of Cycling Scotland said: “Working with partners such as Bike For Good, we offer guidance, resources and support for cycle training and lead rides for anyone new to cycling or the area, as well as grant funding for employers who are keen on attaining the Cycle Friendly Employer Award.”
Leading bike share operator, nextbike, is offering free two-hour voucher codes to enable people to trial the scheme, which has 650 bikes and 62 stations across Glasgow. In addition to public memberships, nextbike offers corporate memberships to companies that want to encourage their employees to travel by bicycle.
Krysia Solheim, Managing Director of nextbike UK said: “This new cycling initiative plan is great news for Glasgow. Bike share helps to reduces congestion, it’s better for the environment and it brings with it huge health benefits for the rider, so anything to encourage uptake is to be welcomed. With nextbike stations at Finnieston Street and the SEC campus, it has never been easier to get around the city by bike from Skypark.”
Stephen Ellis, Senior Asset Manager at Hermes Investment Management, the £33.5 billion manager behind Skypark, added: “The improved cycle facilities at Skypark will be equivalent to the best in Glasgow City Centre, a move that is very much in line with Hermes’ Responsible Property Investment policies, which seek to provide positive environmental or social outcomes as a core focus of the investment strategy.”
Skypark offers a thriving social scene and services for tenants; monthly meet ups, sewing, craft and art classes feature alongside beauty, massage and a Skyperks discount card. It is supported by a five-star service ethos and concierge; Bright Horizons Nursery, an ATM, prescription delivery, Sweat! gym and two on-site cafes. It has immediate access to all transport links, restaurants and leisure facilities that Finnieston has to offer.
